Eight Student-Athletes Head to NCAA Championships in Oregon (2024)

BOULDER — The Colorado track and field team will send eight student-athletes to the 2024 Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., from June 5-8.

The top 24 athletes in the country, 12 in each event from both the East and West preliminary rounds, have advanced to the championships.

The Buffs have one man who has qualified in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and four women who have qualified in individual events, plus the 4x400m relay.

Where to watch the meet: The 2024 NCAA Track & Field Championships will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2, and streamed on ESPN+. On June 5, the first day of the men's championship, ESPN2 will begin coverage at 4:30 p.m. On June 6, the first day of the women's competition, ESPN2 will begin coverage at 5:30 p.m. On June 7, the men's finals, coverage on ESPN2 will begin at 6 p.m. PT. On June 8, the women's finals, coverage on ESPN begins at 2:30 p.m. All times are Pacific.

Qualified Buffs

Men: Kole Mathison (3,000m Steeplechase)

Kole Mathison: Named both the 2022 Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year and USATF Indiana Athlete of the Year; represented USA at the World Cross Country Championship in Australia; named the USATF Indiana Athlete of the Month for January 2024. Mathison, a freshman at the University of Colorado, is a 2023 graduate of Carmel High School. On January 20, at the USATF National U20 Olympic Cross Country Championships in Mechanicsville, VA, he finished second, covering the 8 km course on a cold and windy day in 24:19. The race was won by Kevin Sanchez of Texas in a time of 24:08. By placing in the top six, Mathison qualified for the world championships (March 30; Belgrade, Serbia), where he will represent Team USA for the second year in a row.

Women: Avery McMullen (Heptathlon, 4x400), Abbey Glynn (400m H, 4x400), Bailey Hertenstein (5,000m), Ella Baran (5,000m), Emma Pollack (4x400), Joy Moorer (4x400), Eva Bruce (4x400-alt.)

Ella Baran: NCAA APPEARANCES (3): 2022 NCAA 6K (XC) (30th), 2023 NCAA 5,000-meter (i) (15th), 2023 NCAA 5,000-meter (o) (22nd); ALL-AMERICAN HONORS (2): 2022 All-American Cross Country (30th), 2023 All-American Second Team (Indoor 5,000). At Johns Hopkins (NCAA DIII): 2022 Indoor Mile National Champion, 2022 Indoor All-American (Mile), 2022 Indoor All-American (3,000), 2022 Outdoor All-American (5,000), 2021 XC All-American (9th), 2021 Outdoor All-American (1,500), 2021 Outdoor All-American (5,000), 2020 Indoor All-American (3,000), 2020-21 CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American, 2020-21 & 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-District, NCAA Division III Record Holder in the Mile (Indoor), 2022 Mid-Atlantic Track Runner of the Year, 2021 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, 6x Centennial Conference Medalist (4 Gold, 1 Silver, 1 Bronze), 2020 USTFCCCA All-Academic.

Abbey Glynn: NCAA APPEARANCES (6): 2021 NCAA 400 Hurdles (o) (21st), 2022 NCAA 400 Hurdles (o) (11th), 2022 NCAA 4x400m (o) (23rd), 2023 NCAA 400 Hurdles (o) (8th), 2023 NCAA 4x400m (o) (19th), 2024 NCAA 400m (i) (9th); ALL-AMERICAN HONORS: 2021 All-American Honorable Mention (o) (400 Hurdles), 2022 Second Team All-American (o) (400 Hurdles), 2022 All-American Honorable Mention (o) (4x400m), 2023 First Team All-American (o) (400 Hurdles), 2023 All-American Honorable Mention (o) (4x400m), 2023 Second Team All-American (i) (400m). Owns the four fastest times in CU history, record holder 400mH (o), 4x400 (i&o), 400m(i). At the Pac-12 championships, she finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.31 seconds, breaking her school record and hitting the automatic qualifying standard for next month's Olympic Trials in Eugene.

Emma Pollak: NCAA APPEARANCES (2): 2022 NCAA 4x400m (o) (23rd), 2023 NCAA 4x400m (o) (19th); ALL-AMERICAN HONORS: 2022 All-American Honorable Mention (o) (4x400m).
