UA extends offers at lineman camp | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (2024)

The University of Arkansas football program continued to extend offers in June after outstanding performances from camps with two in-state prospects and a Utah edge rusher landing offers from Wednesday's lineman camp.

Class of 2026 defensive end/receiver Jordan Harris and 2027 tight end/defensive end Hayden Sublette of Maumelle along with 2027 Utah edge rusher Krew Jones earned offers from the Hogs.

Sublette, 6-4 and 220 pounds, earned his first scholarship offer from Razorback Coach Sam Pittman with his showing at camp.

"I came up to Arkansas just to show out in front of the coaches and show them my abilities and strengths," Sublette said. "So when I was told I was getting a tour through the facility, I was excited and thought nothing of an offer. But then they brought me to Coach Pittman's office and he talked to me and my dad for about 20 minutes and told me I was getting an offer.

"I didn't even know what to say. I was in shock and happy to be offered by Arkansas because I was born and raised into being a Hog."

Maumelle Coach Brain Maupin said he likes Sublette's versatility.

"I think he's the prototypical tight end build, but also he's phenomenal defense lineman," Maupin said. "He started every game for us as a freshman. He logged a lot of varsity miles as a freshman."

Sublette had 18 catches for 215 yards along with 25 tackles and a sack for the Hornets last season.

"His biggest thing is just controlling that competitive fire and unleashing it on the field," Maupin said. "He wants to compete and he wants to seek out contact. He can really move and he's really skilled."

Harris, 6-6 and 215 pounds, also has scholarship offers from Missouri, Ole Miss, SMU and Mississippi State. He's also an outstanding basketball player, with scholarship offers from Jackson State, Kennesaw State, Troy and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

His brother Jahlon is a massive 2026 offensive lineman for the Hornets with offers from Missouri and Arkansas State.

"I think he's that rare case of size, speed and athleticism," Maupin said of Jordan Harris. "I think he surprises people with his aggression when they come and see him play football. I think he's been told his whole life basketball, basketball and basketball -- and now he's finally seen there's whole another side of the coin.

"He's always loved football, but people have steered him in certain directions. I think it's nice that he gets to play with his brother and they feed off of each other well and he's really growing into his full potential."

Jordan also has ability to play either side of the ball in college but will play this season at receiver and defensive end for Maumelle.

He played in a benefit game against Marion last year but then focused on basketball. After basketball season, he joined the football team for offseason workouts.

"His body is already changing," said Maupin, who plans to play Harris at receiver and defensive end. "He looks great and he's already naturally aggressive and strong."

Jones, 6-4 and 215 pounds, of Millville (Utah) Ridgeline, had offers from Utah, Nebraska, Washington, Kansas, Kansas State, Brigham Young, Oregon State, Arizona State and others before arriving in Fayetteville.

During one-on-one reps against offensive linemen at the camp, several Razorback linemen were observing and when Jones' turn came, they made sure to watch him.

Jones' explosiveness off the ball and speed created havoc for the offensive linemen at the camp. He got a few tips from Arkansas defensive line coach Deke Adams.

"Coach was talking to be about reducing space and work with my positioning, slanting the quarterback and all that good stuff," Jones said. "I learned some good stuff and had some good competition."

He also said he liked being coached by Adams.

"He gets right down to it," Jones said. "No funny business. He knows what he's talking about. He holds you accountable. You can tell he loves his players and he knows what he's talking about."

He was named second team MaxPreps Freshman All-American as a tight end last year. He had 13 catches for 130 yards and 3 touchdowns while also collecting 55 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks and 2 pass deflections.

Jones said he enjoyed the scenery of Northwest Arkansas.

"It's beautiful around here," Jones said. "I was talking to my dad, it reminds me of home without the mountains. It's like very similar to Cache Valley (in Utah)."

He said his goal is to continue to add weight and strength during the next three years of high school and enter college weighing around 250 pounds without losing speed.

He also said hearing about the offer from Arkansas excited him.

"It's huge blessing for me and my family," Jones said. "I'm super blessed to have all the success I've had. A big part of it is because of my dad. He's the one taking me everywhere and paying for all of this."

Jones and his father left Fayetteville to attend Oklahoma and Baylor camps before the dead period that starts Monday and ends July 24. He said he's looking to make a return trip to Fayetteville.

"Hopefully for a few games, a few visits I'll be out here again," he said.
