Super Mario Bros. "Dirty Mix" OC ReMix (2024)

Posted 2002-06-22, evaluated by djpretzel

Wild, wild beats. If you think some of the past ReMixes you've heard have featured a lot of beat mangling (Shael's Wily Wars piece comes to mind), you ain't heard nothing yet. A smorgasbord of good d'n'b programming and every effect, transformation, and sample you could think of, this submission by A Scholar & A Physician, their first, certainly explores some interesting territory. I think it was in the intro, when a short sample from "Ring of Fire" popped in, that I knew this was gonna be a little abnormal. Very tight programming - if d'n'b is your genre, this is a textbook example of a classic theme deconstructed. Doesn't forget the musical aspect, either, with nice transitions and a fun little clarinet bit towards the end. Thick attitude and technical loop-bustin' chops are in effect, granting yet another life to the way-more-than-9-lives SMB theme. Very amusing to play this in a playlist with the other SMB mixes, just to hear the variety. Recommended.

This is what you get for clicking on remix-reviews of old mixes you have never heard before.
Even the strong german wheat beer I'm currently drinking, can purge what I have heard from my mind, it will haunt me in my nightmares. Funny enough I enjoyed it, perhaps I'm more of a masoch*st as I thought. But the mix is really well done, despite its crazyness

Oh boy... Very, very weird approach to it o_O Wild, crazy breakbeats, mangled samples, lots of unexpected turns and such make this mix an instant OCR classic, even though it's a bit straightforward. Cool!

It's a ReMix that needs to be heard for the experience, that's for sure. While I enjoyed some of the samples (It's a Selecta! and Yo!YoYo! among some), some of the other samples come off a tad too rough for me. But the randomness combined with humor and perhaps the most recognizable video game song ever makes it fun to hear a few times.

My absolute favourite remix on this site, if not. Always entertaining, always amazing, A Scholar A Physician are brilliant. Even though it's one of the most recognisable tunes ever, they still manage to make it fresh. Great beats.

God, this is so. damn. . .unconventional?

Despite being made up of a ****load of samples and the overall insanity level it sounds like a complete, fully-realized composition (and not just a bunch of crap thrown together, in a chaotic way). I love the total unpredictability of the piece, and some of the stuff here even made me laugh because of that randomness.

Nice work...I don't think I've ever heard anything quite like it here.

really insane stuff, but I was feeling it. I don't think many songs could pull this style off, but something as iconic as this theme has the fortitude to withstand such mangling.

Crazy cool stuff. Super Mario Bros. "Dirty Mix" OC ReMix (9)

I've been looking for this one for some time (I knew it was here, but I thought it was actually called 'Mario Bitz', and I didn't want to really search, so meh...). Fortunately I found the remixer's name odd and clicked it by accident just now Super Mario Bros. "Dirty Mix" OC ReMix (11).

This is an amazing remix of the song. Glitchy as all hell, yet it's so coherent at the same time. It's a shame there aren't more submissions like this one - as this is amazing. If you haven't downloaded it already, do it now. You won't regret it.

This has been and will always be my favorite remix.

My friend and I always blast it with the windows down in the car.

Here's a version of the song done live. It's probably closer to the WTF mix than anything, but I really like it. Especially the part with the voice editing in the middle.

I've listened to the song a dozen times.

But never until I saw the video did I laugh like a madman as my eyes melted down my face and elephants paraded through my underpants.

The combination of the two is so trippy that I believe I have gotten high just by watching it.

Excellent work. Reminds me of a piece my brother did for a music class in college, only this is.. Mario.

Anyone still hosting the WTF mix?

on 2006-05-24 06:41:33

This is one of the most interesting remixes I have ever heard and I am glad I heard it. I usually let this one begin my listening session as I still find it amazing that he found all of the instruments to mix in there. Odd, but in a great way
