Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (2024)

Welcome to the Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide!Rise of the Ronin is a new IP from Team Ninja, taking place in an open world. There are 3 story chapters, each one unlocking a new main region. The map you see in Chapter 1 is only a third of the overall game world, withthe rest unlocking in Chapters 2 and 3. The game’s content consists of Main Missions, Bond Missions (which are tied to specific Allies), Grass Roots Missions (Side Quests), and Collectibles. For Platinum you need to finish most of the content but not 100% completion. You need all Main Missions, Bond Missions, Cats, Photo Spots, 50 of 80 Fugitives, enough Treasure Chests to buy 15 Technology Upgrades. The way Collectibles work is that each region has an “Area Bond”. Complete the Public Order events, raise the Veiled Edge Banners, and find a few Collectibles to reach Area Bond 3. Then the remaining collectibles get marked on the map automatically. Luckily, there is a Mission Select called “Testament of the Soul” which is unlocked in Chapter 2. Through this you can go back in time to previous Chapters/Regions and replay any Mission to change your decisions. Hence, nothing is missable.

Your first step is to complete the story. What difficulty you pick doesn’t matter, you can play oneasy (called “Dawn”) if you like. It also doesn’t matter what decisions you make in the story, you can go with either the Anti-Shogunate or Pro-Shogunate choices. These will cancel out each other but you can replay the alternate path through Mission Select after the story. Feel free to work on side tasks as you see fit (anySide Missions and Collectibles you come across). Nothing is missable and you can still do everything after the story in Free-Roam and Mission Select.

After the story you will unlock “Midnight Difficulty” and can replay mission from the “Testament of the Soul”at any Longhouse. Replay the first Main Mission on Midnight Difficulty to unlockRise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (1)Midnight Crossing. The mission is for Level 56.If you have problems with this, do some side content to level upto make this easier.

Also replay the 2nd Main Mission “Infiltrating the Black Ship” on easy difficulty. This time, defeat the second boss at the end of the mission called “Blue Demon” to unlockRise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (2)Tears of a Blue Demon. On the first playthrough he was very difficult but now that you are leveled up you can defeat him in a few hits.

Collectibles:Collectiblesget marked on the map when reaching Area Bond Level 3. You increase the Area Bond by finishing the Public Order Events, raising the Veiled Edge Banners, and finding a few more Collectibles.

For trophies you don’t need the Veiled Edge Banners and Landmarks. However, collecting them will help increase your Area Bond to reveal the other Collectibles. Feel free to skip them but if you walk past them it’s still worth picking them up. The Banners act as fast travel points. Landmarks sometimes contain other Collectibles like Fugitives or Treasure Chests. Public Order Events aren’t directly linked to any trophy but are often required to unlock other Collectibles.

Bond Missions:You will need to complete all 58 Bond Missions. Their starting location can be marked from the Missions Menu. You will need to fast travel back to their relevant Region using the Testament of the Soul at the Longhouse. As you play through them you will gradually unlock more Bond Missions. Each set of Bond Missions is tied to one Ally, doing one mission unlocks the next (1 to 5 Bond Missions per Ally). You can see exactly which missions you have left and what the unlock requirement is by going to the Longhouse > Testament of the Soul > select Bond Missions > press Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (3) to switch between allies.

If you need to increase the relationship with an ally to advance their missions, find them in the open world and exhaust all dialogues and give them a gift, then replay short missions with them until your Bond Level has increased. You can quickly locate any ally or their bond mission by going to the Bond Menu > Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (4) for Allies > press Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (5) on an Ally for Details > click Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (6) on the Location or Related Mission. It will immediately jump to the location in the world or the relevant mission in the menu.

At this point you might still be missing some of the allies. You will have gotten almost all of them from playing through the Bond Missions, but a few of them are tied to certain story choices and will require mission replays. For any you have left refer toRise of the Ronin How to Unlock All Allies.

The trophies for saving “Shinsaku Takasugi” & “Soji Okita” should automatically have unlocked from their Bond Missions. You might still need to save “Ryoma Sakamoto”.

Then clean up anything else you have left, such as catching 5 Cheaters at the “Odds and Evens” minigame, and buying 15 Tech Upgrades with the books you found from Treasure Chest collectibles.

There are two ways you can give gifts: at the Longhouse (unlocked in Chapter 1) use the “Talk” Menu to speak to an ally, then you get the option to give a gift. The trophy unlocks after leaving the Talk Menu. The second method is to talk to allies in the open world, they are usually found at their faction bases, then you can give a gift directly without doing it at the Longhouse.

Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (41)Veiled Vow
Started your first romantic relationship.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (42)To get this trophy, you have to reach the maximum Bond level with any Ally. Click on the dialogue option “I’ve got Feelings for you” to get the trophy.

The trophy comes almost automatically whenyou collect all the cats for Usugumo Dayu, as you will have maximized both levels for herafter collecting all cats.

You can replay missions at the Longhouse after the story, by using The Testament of the Soul menu.Youincrease bond level by taking allies on missions, giving gifts, givingcompliments during conversations, and in some cases by gathering collectibles. You can do this at Blacksmiths found in most major towns or at the Longhouse. Talk to the Blacksmith and from his inventory select the “Upgrade” menu. You will need resources for this. Weapons require Iron Ore, Armor requires Cotton-Linen Threads. The quickest way to get these materials is from disassembling other weapons and armor at the Blacksmith. You can make a manual save beforehand, disassemble lots of gear, pick the cheapest upgrades, then reload save after popping the trophy to get your materials back.

It’s best to keep all armor piecesthat have a golden text in their item description until you have a full set.

You should get at least one full set automatically from story progress, but you still need to equip it.

You must complete 50 of these random encounters. While going for all collectible trophies you should come across 50 of them, just be sure to always do them when you see them. You can also get them relatively after the story by riding along main roads. Theyinclude different tasks such as enemies you must defeat, tossing jars at an NPC, catching a thief, following a wolf etc. It will usually be obvious what to do when you get there, as you’ll have to interact with something in the immediate surroundings, rescue someone, or follow someone. If an NPC is there make sure you get the encounter reward from him to count it as completed.

You can see how many you’ve doneon the trophy tracker in the trophy list.

Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (119)Moneybags
Saved 150,000 sen.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (120)For this you must have 150,000 sen (money) at the same time. Don’t spend the money until you get the trophy. If you never spend any money you get enough from just the main missions alone. You also earn money from selling gear, doing Bond Missions. Especially higher-level endgame missions give a lot. 150,000 isn’t that much money in the endgame.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (121)Well-Rounded Ronin
Reached Level 55.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (122)To get this trophy, you have to reach player level 55. This isn’t the highest level, it keeps going higherthan that. You will automatically reach level 55 while going for the other trophies so don’t worry about this. The main story alone will get you to around level 50. Then the remaining levels will come from completing bond missions, grass roots missions (side quests), collectibles.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (123)Friendly Neighborhood Ronin

Before certain main missions you can select up two AI allies to follow you or search for Co-Op players. Play solo and remove the allies, then finish the mission. An easy opportunity is in Chapter 1 > Main Mission “Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises”. It’s the first main mission where you can bring an ally with you. Unequip the ally, rush to the mission boss, defeat him, the trophy will unlock after that. It won’t work on missions that don’t have the ally select screen.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (135)Life Saver
Completed a No-Kill Mission’s objectives.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (136)This can easily be done in Bond Mission “In Search of New Knowledge” by Yukichi f*ckuzawa. You have to finish the mission without killing anyone. You will unlock it while playing through all Bond Missions. It can be replayed using the Testament of the Soul (available at Longhouse after story). Unequip your weapons to be unarmed. You can attack opponents using your bare firsts, then they only get knocked unconscious. The trophy then unlocks upon completing the mission.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (137)Tears of a Blue Demon
Managed to beat the Blue Demon aboard the Black Ship.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (138)Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (139)

The “Blue Demon” is the endboss in Main Mission 2: Infiltrating the Black Ship. The first time you fight him, he will be very difficult to kill and if you die the story will automatically skip the fight. To make this much easier, do it after the story via Mission Replay. When you finished the story you can go to any Longhouse and select the “Testament of the Soul” Menu to replay this mission. After the story you will be Level 50+ and will defeat the boss in a few hits if playing on Dawn (Easy) difficulty. You have to rush through the mission again, defeat the Matthew Perry boss at the end of the ship, then the Blue Demon boss spawns.

Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (140)Midnight Crossing
Completed an optional ronin mission with the “Midnight” difficulty setting enabled.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (141)Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (142)

“Midnight” difficulty is unlocked upon finishing the main story. You can then interact with any Longhouse > select the “Testament of the Soul” Menu > press Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (143) to switch to Midnight difficulty > the first time you do this, you’ll have to fast travel back to Yokohama (Chapter 1 Region) > interact with the Longhouse there again and use the Testament of the Soul > press Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (144) to switch to “Ronin Missions” (main story missions). Now you can replay any story mission on Midnight difficulty.

The easiest option is to replay the first main mission “Veiled Edge Village”. It only has two enemies with wooden weapons and one boss at the end. The mission is Level 56, you should be the same level or higher to make it easier. Having bought the stat upgrades for more Medicine Pills is particularly helpful so you can heal more often. An easy strategy against the boss is to run away and wait for your AI teammate to distract her, then land a combo from behind, rinse and repeat. Using charged attacks from a safe distance is also a decent method, or blocking and using Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (145) Countersparks on the last hit of the combo to stagger the boss.

The more you level up, the easier this becomes. If you are having trouble, keep it until you’ve finished all Bond Missions which will level you up a lot. After the story you also unlock the “Breakthrough” stats, you can buy passive stat boosts there to become stronger.

Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (146)The Greater Opportunity
Saved Shinsaku Takasugi’s life.Rise of the Ronin Trophy Guide & Roadmap (147)Reward for completing all of Shinsaku Takasugi’s Bond Missions. He has 4 Bond Missions total: Try Your Luck > Something to Believe In > Where There’s a Will > The Spice of Life.

At the end of his bond mission you will have to fight Shinsaku, then you have to give him medicine to cure his tuberculosis, which will give you a results screen that says he was saved.

His first 3 missions unlock gradually from story progress. The 4th mission requires reaching Bond Level 3 with Shinsaku. After doing his first 3 bond missions you should already be Bond Level 2.To quickly increase the bondgo talk to Shinsaku at any of his open world locations, for example in Edo (Chapter 2) he’s found in Sub-Region: Azabu > Choshu Clan Villa (green map icon). Exhaust all dialogue options. You can also give him a gift (the ones with a heart icon give the most bond). For the remaining bond progress, use Testament of the Soul to replaymain quests and take him with you as an ally. After each quest you play you can also give him another gift if you like, or just keep grinding more missions until you reach Bond 3. Then you get a notification that a new mission is available.

What dialogue choices you pick during his missions doesn’t matter, you will always give him the medicine in the end. If he already died during Chapter 3 that’s okay, you can still play his Bond Missions after the story by using the Testament of the Soul to travel back to previous time periods/regions. If you sided with the Anti-Shogunate faction (green) he will die in Chapter 3 but it doesn’t void the trophy, it still unlocks regardless when completing his 4th bond mission, so this isn’t missable.

The location for this is in Main Region 3: Kyoto (Chapter 3) > Sub-Region: Higashiyama (south-east corner of the map) > Landmark:Kiyomizudera Temple.

It will get marked on the map as a Landmark when going near it. You must go to the balcony where the Veiled Edge Banner fast travel point is, slightly west of the Landmark icon on the map. Next to the Veiled Edge Banner jump off the balcony and glide for a few seconds until the trophy unlocks. It’s the big main building with the wooden scaffolding below it on the side of the mountain, not the tall red-roofed temple. You will visit this location as part of the Chapter 3 main story, then theKiyomizudera Temple will automatically get marked on the map.
