Iris Harrison Brannon was born on December 15, 1928, to Phillip Harrison, and Rose Anna Plowden Harrison. She was the seventh of eight children.

Iris was educated in the School System of Erath Louisiana.

She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and never wavered.

Iris married Willie Howard Brannon, Jr. Together, they had four children. Willie had five children from a previous marriage. She loved and cared for all of their children. Everyone was always welcomed in their home. She treated all with love and kindness.

Iris volunteered in the Houston Independent School System for over twenty years. Her volunteer service ceased when her husband became ill in February 1984. She cared for him until his death on February 19, 2001. She also cared for many throughout her life.

The Brannon Family joined Fiesta Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Loonie Hogg in 1964 and were charter members of the church.

They later joined Riverbrook Missionary Baptist Church. Iris participated in many organizations of the church offering her time and talents. After her health began to decline, she became affiliated with The Church at Bethel’s Family under the leadership of Pastor Walter August, Jr. Iris enjoyed Wednesday Mid-Day Bible Study. Pastor McGhee was the presenter. She was cared for at home by family and close family friends.

Iris leaves to cherish her memories, her children, Tanya E. Brannon; Michael Brannon (Valeria), Sherell Brannon Hill (Holton), Cynthia Bessard, Laura M. Brannon Greene, Cassandras Trahan (Russell), daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Douglas Brannon, all of Houston, TX; 15 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren; two special sons, Rev. Walter August, Jr. (Ruby), and Robert Kerry (Willie); a special daughter, Jackie Jammer, God Daughters, Jacqueline Jacobs, and Shelia Clement; sons-in-law, Gibson Bessard and Lyndon Charles; two brothers-in-law, Otis Brannon, and Larry Brannon (Loretha); three sisters-in-law, Jean Brannon, Cynthia Brannon and Emma Brannon; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbors.

Iris was preceded in death by her, husband, Willie H. Brannon, Jr., parents, Phillip and Rose Anna Harrison, siblings, Phillip Harrison, Anna Bessard, Robert Harrison, Lillian Harrison, Mamie Harrison, Mattie Harrison, and Otis Harrison; children, Cherita Thibodeaux, Mary Robertson and Rickey H. Brannon, Sr., and one grandson, Shannon Joiner.
