I had the pleasure of having Mary as my doula for my fourth baby. This was my first experience trying for a birth without an epidural. I was nervous going in, but Mary was amazing at providing resources and answering all of my questions prior to the birth. During my actual experience, she was incredible at supporting me and helping me navigate changes we had to make along the way. She also really helped in advocating for me when there were disagreements with my doctor on how to proceed forward. She made me feel so comfortable and supported and helped me achieve the birth I wanted. Postpartum, she ensured I had additional resources for breastfeeding, pumping, and even helped come up with activities to keep my older kids occupied while solo parenting. Overall, I would recommend Mary and her services to any mama looking for an amazing experience.

Frequently asked questions

Will you meet the birthing couples at home or at the hospital/birthing place?

I will typically join you in active labor and provide continuous support through active labor, delivery, and 30-45 mins initially postpartum. However, I am usually and welcome any and all in communication with you in the early labor stage as well.

What’s the training of a CLC (Certification Lactation Counselor)?

My certification is through a comprehensive, evidence-based, breastfeeding management course (run by Healthy Children Project), which includes practical skills, theoretical foundations and competency verification (Certification exam given by the Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice). CLC’s certification is accredited by the American National Standards Institute. In addition to my preliminary training, I do yearly continuing education to maintain my certification.

Can you provide services virtually?

Absolutely! Virtual services can sometimes allow for you to be seen sooner. Prenatal meetings, childbirth education, lactation counseling and mental health support can all be provided virtual in needed or preferred.

Do you accept health insurance for your services?

No, I currently do not accept insurance for doula services, childbirth education or lactation services. Mental health support that I offer through Me.Be Baby Birth & Postpartum Services is different in setting and relational care from a typical therapeutic session with a private practice psychotherapist. Through my private practice as a psychotherapist I do accept insurance but that is very different from mental health support from a birth professional role. However, I encourage all to contact their insurance company about reimbursem*nt for any birth worker fees and can provide an itemized bill.

Why/How did you become a birth doula?

I am a birth worker because I felt called to the community after I experience a traumatic birth and loss with my first pregnancy at the age of 24 in 2019. I did not have a doula or a birth professional to advocate or educate me or my loved ones at the time. I now work hard to be the birth worker and provide the support that I needed at that time in 2019. I completed my birth doula training through DONA with a BIPOC exclusive cohort and began working towards certification, while engaging in various training along the way.
